A Royally Good Time

It's a nice bike ride out to visit Queen Margrethe II's summer residence, the Marselisborg Slot, whose grounds and gardens are open to the public when the Queen and her family are not in residence.  The boys could barely believe heir ears when I told them that this country had a Queen, and that we were now walking around her summer home.  "Is she in there? Can we see her? What does she look like?" Rohan loudly demanded, which prompted a friendly Dane who overheard to stop and pull up photos of Queen Margrethe on her iPhone, and show us. "Oooo," we all cooed, infected by the royal bug.  I particularly loved seeing the Queen's Scandanavian glass art collection through the window of the palace; glass art is very much appreciated in this corner of the world.

Thus enlightened, we meandered the grounds, pretending to be royal guards protecting the Palace from possible invaders,

paused to think regal thoughts on our stroll through the garden,

and checked out the Palace from both the front and back, where it overlooks the Aarhus Bay.

We also enjoyed the statues of lions romping on the grounds,

Then we played in the sand and play structures of nearby Mindenpark after enjoying our requisite ice creams from one of the ubiquitous tourist stalls just outside the park's entrance.  Given their reception of this palace, it'll be fun to see how the boys react to the changing of the guard in Copenhagen.
